The Aegean Sea and the Greek Seas in general for over 4000 years have never ceased to be the channel linking Europe to Asia and Africa… the crossroads of peoples and ideas, the cradle of history and the development of an unrivaled culture which has been inherited by all of mankind.
The internationalism of ideas and of spirit which distinguish these seaways also characterizes the members of the “DXers of the Aegean” team, who are the ambassadors of radio amateurism, volunteerism, free initiative and fraternal solidarity.
The aims of this team are:
To broaden the channel of contact between peoples and to obtain further knowledge, both scientific and empirical, in the field of radio communications
To further develop the art and technology of communications through “DXing”, with whatever the term entails internationally
To activate as many islands and islets in the Greek Seas as possible
To bestir our members during anniversary events or other important events via specifically hallmarked calls
To dynamically participate in large as well as international radio contests
To establish internationally and support a series of awards such as:
a) Greek Islands On The Air
b) Big Blue Award
c) The award of the great wise men of antiquity, whose decent is placed in the island region, such as: Pythagoras, Aristarchos, Epicouros, Homer, Aesop, as well as the great men of our time such as: D. Solomos, Kalvos, Mandaros and others
To organize and establish the HF contest of the Greek Seas
To support and participate in existing Greek contests, such as: the VHF AEGEAN CONTEST, the 5-9 Report, the Greek FIELD-DAY of the RAAG and any others which may be organized by radio amateur clubs
Anyone who possesses the spirit of the Aegean DX group and is activated in the Greek Island region may become a member of the team.
One’s desire to participate in the team’s activities may be declared by forwarding their QSL card with a note on the back stating: “For my participation in the Aegean DX group”. They must also include their address, e-mail and telephone numbers.
The following address is formally assigned for contact with public bodies and group members:
Aegean Dx group
P.O. Box 4
SAMOS 831 00
Participation in the group does not involve any kind of economic burden, such as registration, subscription, etc. Those members however, who desire to take on certain activities will be responsible for the expenses that may consequently arise.
The general expenses arising from the activities of the AEGEAN DX group can be covered by supporters and sponsors.
The AEGEAN DX group does not appoint a Board of Directors, or any other type of presidency.
Any member, on their own incentive, may initiate and coordinate certain activities which are in accordance with the spirit of the group. The only requirement is the announcement of the activity in advance. That is, either in person, or by telephone, or radio contact with other members for discussion and assistance.
If and when the necessity for general decisions to be made arises, they will be made viva voce at scheduled or unscheduled meetings, which will take place via any available means. More specifically: via a pre-set HF frequency, or repeaters of the area, or via e-mail, or even by telephone. The announcement of either scheduled or unscheduled meetings does not necessarily require the physical presence of the members.
The general function of the group is based upon free initiative, on volunteerism and on fraternal solidarity among members. This also represents the spirit of the AEGEAN DX group.
Dear fellow-radio amateur, fellow-DXer, if the points mentioned above have something to say to you, if you have been intrigued by our spirit and our aims, we invite you to join us on our journey through the…. Ionosphere.
